Roll a ball game – reflection

Planning

In this project I am planning on making the game called Roll a ball game by following The tutorial . To make this game I will be using iMac, Unity software and tutorials on the official website.

Research & Experimentation

For this project I don’t have to do much of a research, because I will be watching tutorials of how to make is step by step. All codes for the game, are also included on the Unity website. When it comes to experimentation, during the creation of the game I have picked the colours of my choice for the ball, background and the pick-ups. Also, I have picked the numbers of the pick ups and their position on the ground.

Problems

During the first day of making the game I have managed to get to the second tutorial and the part where I have already pasted the code that allows player to move, tested to code to check if there are any errors, but at the end of the video I have faced the problem, which I didn’t know how to resolve on my own, so I had to stop and see, if I can fix the problem. Due to the type of the problem I was not able to move on the next step of the tutorial.

On my next lesson I was not able to open my saved project due to my USB and the software which was not up to date, so I have ended up on not making any progress at all. In the end I had to neglect my current project and follow my teachers tutorial, as I was running out of time to finish it.

Final result

Once I completed all tutorials I have uploaded the folder to my Google Drive.

Roll a ball game – research

In this post i will be doing research on history of video games.

The first video game was released in 1958 and it’s been called Tennis for two. It was  simple two-player tennis simulation. It was created by American physicist William Higinbotham. This game is really important in the history of video games as one of the first electronic games to use a graphical.

Next big release in game industry is SpaceWar! which officially released in 1962. This game was a two-player game involving warring spaceships firing photon torpedoes. Each player could maneuver a spaceship and score by firing missiles at his opponent while avoiding the gravitational pull of the sun.

In 1970 these type of games were classified as the form of arcade games. The first Computer_Space_flyercommercial arcade video game, Computer Space by Nutting Associates. It was introduced in 1971. It was one of the last games created in the early history of video games. The game was designed by Bushnell and Dabney. Nolan Bushnell wanted video
games available to the public but it was too expensive to use computer hardware or it’s CPU. So he decided to build his own arcade cabinet which was a coin-operated version of Spacebar.

Nolan Bushnell, the man who developed Computer Space. The concept of it was to move your cursor to get the slides to bounce back the moving square – it will speed up as you progress. Pong could be played as one player against a computer controlled paddle or two players where you would play against each other.

Technology

pic-tech-gaming

Video games as well as technology has come along way.  Along this way a lot of gaming technology was developed. One of the most important technology is Microsoft HoloLens. It is a virtual reality (VR) headset with transparent lenses for an augmented reality experience. The next technology that is currently the most powerful on the market is console Xbox one X. There are plans for the newest Xbox to come out in 2020, but according to Microsoft subject to change this far out. It represents a major performance boost over the Xbox One S and is geared towards people who want to see their games at the best quality possible on console. It comes with 4K, also known as Ultra HD, generally refers to a resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. That’s four times the 1,920 x 1,080 pixels found in your full HD TV. We’re looking at about 8.3 million pixels. Cramming so many pixels into a TV means a higher pixel density, and you should have a clearer, better defined picture. It’s not about sharpness, it’s about letting you see more detail and texture. 4K is currently the biggest resolution out on the market. Perhaps you’re even wondering whether the new level of detail is too much – but 8K images, TVs and perhaps even VR headsets are now only a few months away from hitting cinephiles homes.
